Complications at the stage of labor are very rare, but they happen. Depending on the complication level, it may be a life threat for both mother and baby. 1. Bleeding compilation:
If you have excessive bleeding later the birth, contact your doctor. The health care provider will analyses the type of bleeding, cause for the bleeding and diagnose with postpartum hemorrhage. Some cases the doctor may prescribe you medication to stop bleeding. If any of these measures do not work, you might undergo a surgery to remove the placenta and the uterine lining. In very extreme cases, your uterus might be taken out completely.
This complication is mostly observed when you deliver more than one baby, if you had multiple labors, if you have complications with your placenta.
2. Fetal distress:
The distress in the fetus may occur due to many reasons like infections, medications used at the time of labor, umbilical cord problems. During this the baby might feel distress. The care team will be monitoring the baby’s complications and take the regarding tests. At this stage your doctor may use a vacuum to extract the baby and help you to deliver. If its not successful then they might switch to C-section.
3. Labor Complications in the placenta:
This is one of the rare complications, which are identified before the baby birth. The Problem with the placenta occur later the labor has started. Placental complications are more common after the C-section. Placental complications may occur when the placenta covers your cervix, when growth of the placenta reaches the lining of the uterus, when the placenta comes out of the uterine wall very soon. This complication may put both the mother and baby at risk, huge blood loss may occur. Do not worry your doctor will monitor you and knows the best way to be treated.
4. Improper progress in the labor causing complications:
Improper progress in labor happens mostly when your water breaks and having frequent contractions. Sometimes you may be at great risk, at this stage your doctor will provide the medication to speed up the labor. At some situation your labor might stop without progressing, your doctor might give you medication and help you to restart the labor.
There might be many reasons for the improper progress like the head of the baby may be too big to pass through the cervix, your contractions may be weak, your cervix is not expanding. In such situations your doctor might go for C-section.
5. Preterm labor:
Preterm labor takes place between week 30 to week 37. It varies from one and another. During that stage the brain development in the baby will be under progress. The doctors will try to stop the labor and suggest for the bed rest until the term of labor arrives. The risk factor depends on, how early the labor starts. If the preterm labor happens, the premature babies need to face many challenges. Mostly the premature babies are kept in the incubators for some period to facilitate complete development in the baby.
6. Umbilical cord complications:
Umbilical cord complications usually occurs, when the cord is wrapped around the neck of the baby during labor. In some situations the cord might come out through vagina before the baby. Don’t be panic the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby will not harm, it’s not too tight to interrupt baby’s breathing. In most cases it has not considered as the serious issue. Your doctor will take a scan test before your labor, they can clearly identify the issue with umbilical cord. There are many steps to cure the issue, if its not solved and your baby is not feeling comfortable then the doctor will go for C-section.
7. Perineal Tearing:
Perineal Tearing is mostly observed in the normal labor. This occurs when the tearing of tissues takes place between your vagina and anus. If the severity of a tear is excessive then your doctor will repair it with stitches. Do not worry the wound will be cured in mean time.
